Walter's Coffee House
About This Spot
Step inside Walter's Coffee House and you’re immediately wrapped in a warm, inviting embrace that blends the charm of a village gathering spot with the quiet comfort of a tucked-away retreat. Housed within the character-filled walls of an old school building, this little haven in Higher Kinnerton offers a pace that invites lingering—whether you’re settling down with a book or catching up with a friend.
The atmosphere gently buzzes with the hum of quiet conversations and the soft clink of cups amidst sunlight streaming through large windows. It’s a space that feels lived-in yet lovingly curated, where familiar faces mingle with newcomers drawn by the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the promise of a fresh pastry. What sets Walter’s apart is a subtle, heartfelt touch—the walls tell stories through a delightful gallery dedicated to the founding dog and his four-legged friends, while a corkboard showcases snapshots of canine visitors, reminding you just how much this corner of Chester embraces community.
The menu here is far from an afterthought; it’s a thoughtful journey through comforting flavors and little indulgences. Whether it’s the rich, creamy comfort of a latte paired with a buttery croissant, or the satisfying warmth of an Americano alongside a flaky sausage roll, each bite and sip feels like part of a gentle ritual. Their remarkable selection of cookies and brownies, each offering a layer of chocolate or caramel richness, rounds out the experience with a touch of sweetness that lingers.
Walter’s Coffee House isn’t about hurry or fuss. It’s the kind of place where the staff’s genuine friendliness adds to the calm, where you find yourself breathing a little more easily, savoring simple moments. Nearby, a small shop called The Rabbit Hole offers another glimpse of local charm, making a visit here feel like uncovering a hidden pocket of warmth and care.

This place is absolutely brilliant! They have a wonderful wall of paintings of dogs, of the founding dog and all his friends. They take Polaroids of the visiting dogs(incredibly dog friendly!) And put them on a corkboard. It's so so lovely to see a place where the owners and staff care so much! The decor is gorgeous, as an added extra. The coffee was great also, and the cakes were incredible. My favourite was the lemon blondie. I'll be trying to visit whenever I can now!

We drove in from across the border for this coffee shop and it was very worth it. Such a cool interior and a great sunny space to sit outdoors. An ideal cafe for reading a book. Coffee was tasty, but the flat white had too much milk (more like a latte). Friendly staff.

Great place with a very quaint interior decor based on dogs. A very dog friendly cafe, portraits of dogs on walls and a booklet of visitor dogs too. The food is great, try the Welsh Rabbit and add a poached egg on top. Great coffee probably a strength 3-4. Serves a mixture of food and cakes.

First time visiting here for Sunday lunch just before Christmas. Soo good I'm going back again this Sunday! I had a festive naan filled with Turkey, Cranberry and stuffing. Great idea on naan bread instead of the usual options! All the cake looked delicious but I was too full to try any. Quirky place with a few large stuffed animals ( giraffe head ) dotted around and an old bi-plane hanging from the ceiling. I'd recommend booking as it doesn't seat too many but well worth it. Also within the cafe is a small shop called The Rabbit Hole with a great variety of home ware and clothing. Definitely worth a look after you've been in the cafe.
